Call for Participation for the IIIS Summer 2024 Conference
September 10-13, 2024 ~ Conference organized in Orlando, Florida, USA

We invite you to participate and/or collaborate (submitting an article and/or sending this announcement to your colleagues) in the following multi-disciplinary collocated events. The purpose of the Organizing Committee is to include in the conference program 1) disciplinary presentations, 2) trans-disciplinary or non-disciplinary presentations, 3) participatory workshops and/or panels, 4) conversational sessions, in the context of a multi-disciplinary forum provided with the means for inter-disciplinary communications. In the following figure we tried to visually schematize the above mentioned ideas on integrating disciplinary events with conversational, participatory and trans-disciplinary ones in order to synergistically relate intra- and inter-disciplinary communication, in order to facilitate the generation of analogical thinking, hypothesis generation, scientific creativity, and technological innovation. You can contribute submitting an article to any of the following events. We thought that the bellow disciplinary variety would be helpful in the formation of a multi-disciplinary forum which is a necessary condition for inter-disciplinary communication.

To be able to include inter-disciplinary presentations in the conference program, the international Institute of Informatics and Systemic is providing some financial support for fostering these inter-disciplinary communications. Consequently, the Organizing Committee will invite registered authors of accepted papers to make an additional presentation (with no additional cost) of their disciplinary presentation but for inter-disciplinary or non-disciplinary communication, or to present a paper regarding the importance of interdisciplinary research, education and problem solving. These additional presentations might have associated invited papers which would be included in the pre-conference proceedings or in the post-conference volume of the proceedings. Best papers of these inter-disciplinary presentations will also be published in a special issue of the Journal of Systemics, Cybernetics, and Informatics, entitled “Inter-disciplinary communications.”

Keynote Speakers

Technical and Plenary keynote speakers will be selected from early submissions because this selection requires an additional evaluation (besides to the quality of the paper assessed by its reviewers) related to the authors’ CV and the paper’s topic.

Reviewing Process

All Submitted papers/abstracts will go through two reviewing processes: (1) double-blind (at least three reviewers), and (2) non-blind peer reviews. Final acceptance depends of the two kinds of reviews but a paper should be recommended by non-blind reviewers AND blind reviewers in order to be accepted for presentation at the conference and to be included in the respective conference proceedings. A recommendation to accept made by non-blind reviewers is a necessary condition, but it is not a sufficient one. A submission, to be accepted, should also have a majority of its double-blind reviewers recommending its acceptance. This double necessary conditions generate a more reliable and rigorous reviewing than a those reviewing methods based on just one of the indicated methods, or just on the traditional double-blind reviewing. The two kinds of reviews mentioned above will support the selection process of those papers that will be accepted for their presentation at the conference, as well as those to be selected for their publication in JSCI Journal. Authors of accepted papers who registered in the conference can have access to the evaluations and possible feedback provided by the reviewers who recommended the acceptance of their papers, so they can accordingly improve the final version of their papers. Non-registered authors will not have access to the reviews of their respective submissions.

Virtual Participation

Both synchronous and asynchronous virtual presentations are possible. Therefore, the authors who participate virtually in the conference have the option of:

• • Submitting a slide show and/or a pre-recorded video of their presentation (asynchronous presentation) or
  • Making their presentation via Zoom (synchronous presentation)

  Additionally, each paper to be presented at the event may be read and commented on, via electronic forums, and evaluated by those participants who have registered for the conference.

 

Invited Sessions Organizers

Registration fees of an effective invited session organizers will be waived according to the policy described in the web page (click on ‘Invited Session’, then on ‘Benefits for the Organizers of Invited Sessions’), where you can get information about the ten benefits for an invited session organizer. To propose the organization of an Invited Session, please visit the conference web site, and go to the menu option “Invited Sessions” and then to the menu sub-option “Invited Sessions Organiziers.”

Best Papers

Authors of the best 25%-30% of the papers presented at the conference, synchronously or asynchronously, will be invited to adapt their papers for their publication in the Journal of Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics.

Invited Sessions organizers will select the best paper of the session they organized. If there is a tie in a given session, the paper that will be selected as the best session’s paper will be the one which have had the highest quantitative evaluations average according to its double-blind and non-blind reviews.

The selection process of the best 25%-30%, to be also published in the Journal, will be based on the quantitative evaluation average made by its anonymous and non-anonymous reviewers. The later will be applied to papers which acceptance was based on reviews made to draft papers. Reviews of extended abstracts will not be valid for selecting best papers according to the quantitative evaluation of the respective submissions.
